Inner Beauty Pilates

The Pilates Method is a comprehensive exercise and rehabilitation program designed by Joseph H. Pilates and his wife Clara during World War II. Since then it has become a powerful rehabilitation tool with significant benefits. This mind and body program works to heal, restore, strengthen and invigorate the body and focus the mind. Its focus on movement and breathing brings you new and effective treatment methods. It is also extremely versatile – the extensive exercise repertoire can be modified to fit the needs of each patient or client.

The objective of Pilates is to increase strength and flexibility without adding bulk. Pilates especially works the "powerhouse" muscle group of the body: the buttocks, abdomen and lower back. Pilates can be practiced on the mat or on specially designed machines(Reformers, Cadillac, Tower, and Wunda Chair).

The most commonly used equipment, the Reformer, is a resistance-based piece of equipment with a moving carriage that slides along a wooden or metal frame. Springs and ropes provide assistance and resistance, and exercises are performed lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing.

One of the many reasons the Pilates Method is widely practiced today is due to its fitness and rehabilitation benefits. Pilates is offered in private studios, hospitals and medical offices around the world. The Pilates principle of core stabilization addresses posture, muscle performance and motor control – the same concepts that form the basis of most orthopedic rehabilitation and therapy. Physical therapists are using Pilates successfully to treat many common conditions and diseases, including:

  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Shoulder Impingement/Tendonitis
  • Hip Bursitis
  • Ankle Injuries
  • Total Knee/Hip Replacement
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Scoliosis
