CMainstream yoga classes often present too many obstacles for students who have limitations, impairments and even disabilities. Adri has done specialized training in Adaptive Yoga and Restorative Yoga to help those in need of special attention that otherwise would not get in a regular class setting.
Adaptive yoga is great for seniors, for people that have limited mobility, for people that have Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Cancer, or anyone recovering from any illness or injuries. It helps people that want to remain active or are looking to increase the range of motion and better their quality of life.
Adaptive yoga teachers address accessibility and with the use of props they create a safe and meaningful experience for the student.
Adaptive yoga
~ Uses traditional yoga poses adapted to the needs of the student using chairs, tables, walls and other props for safety and comfort.
~ Uses a developmental approach with the ability to progress to more challenging variations.
~ Offers a comprehensive approach to stress relief and symptom management using appropriate techniques for the individual or group of students.
Adaptive yoga is a great tool for students with disabilities that want to stay connected with other people. They increase their mobility and fitness level, and find a sense of community and wellbeing.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a practice of active relaxation. It is the type of yoga that allows us to relax more deeply by being completely supported. In Restorative Yoga all the poses are done in a passive manner with the help and support of blankets, blocks and props. This helps us relax completely in poses that are designed to open the areas of the body where most tensions are stored.
Restorative poses are a great tool for EVERYONE but especially beneficial when you are fatigued, stressed, weak, ill or recovering from illness or injury.
With Restorative yoga you will feel layers of tension melting away as you learn how to be and stay present within your body and mind.
